Student Teaching Program

Sign Up:  Dancers in 6th grade through high school are allowed to sign up for a student teaching position.  There are openings from pre-kindergarten classes through 7th grade classes.  Only high school dancers are eligible to student teach in Showstopper classes.  Student teaching positions are filled on a first come first serve basis.  If you are interested in student teaching, print this form, fill it out and turn it into the Fuzion front desk.

Expectations:  Dancers who choose to student teach are expected to act like an assistant teacher during the time they are student teaching.  Teachers will guide student teachers in class.  Most teachers expect student teachers to demonstrate at all times, wear appropriate dance attire, be a good role model and help out with basic classroom activities.  Student teachers are expected to be in class every week.  If they are unable to make it to class, they are expected to call and let the teacher know that they will be absent.  Student teaching positions are taken very seriously by the Fuzion faculty.  We expect the dancers to treat this position like a job.  It is a great experience for dancers and gives them a little taste of what it would be like to work at a dance studio.

Leadership Training:  Once the cometition schedule is set, Miss Kelly will set the Leadership Training schedule.  Student teachers are requried to attend 3 to 5 Leadership Training Meetings throughout the school year.  These training days will be scheduled for Sunday afternoons.  At the training days the dancers get the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about their student teaching experience, participate in leadership activities, and get to know the in's and out's of the studio.

Recital Dance:  All student teachers get the opportunity to participate in a student teacher dance in the spring recitals.  Dancers will not be required to purchase costume pieces from Fuzion, but may be asked to accessorize or come up with something "out of your closet" to wear for the performance!  Whatever it is, it will be inexpensive.  Dancers that want to participate in the recital dance will be required to attend 6 to 8 Sunday afternoon rehearsals (some of these rehearsals will be on the same days as Leadership Training Meetings).

Evaluations:  All student teachers will be evaluated by the teacher they work with at Fuzion.  It will be a part of their dance evaluation.  If student teachers cannot follow through on the expectations listed above, they will be pulled from the recital dance and possibly excused from student teaching.

When do they start?  Right away!  Student teachers will receive a letter or a call saying what class they will be assisting.  Student teachers will start in August and work throughout the year.

Student Teacher Ice Cream Social:  Student teachers who successfully complete the year will be invited to an Ice Cream Social.  The faculty is very thankful to have good student teachers and we want to show them our appreciation.  More information about the ice cream social will be given out in May.
